Vision and Mission, we have appointed two doctors
in Naturopathy as lifestyle consultants. Naturopathy
is a concept of healing, and a way of life, using
various natural means of preventing and treating

general vitality and the body’s defence
system. Naturopaths endeavour to treat the whole
person, as an individual, looking at the cause
of the disease or imbalance. It is an excellent
form of preventative medicine. Naturopathy combines
a number of different modalities (methods) of

the heart of Naturopathy lies a philosophy based
on the vital force, or energy that is present
in the physical body, a lack of vitality in
a patient is considered one of the main causes
of illness and disease. Naturopathy has its
roots in centuries of tried and tested folk

from housekeeping and catering to the therapy

Purpose of treatment: The skin tissues
are gradually removed by a controlled crystal mist,
gently refining the epidermal layer, leaving the skin
smooth and more youthful. Whilst dead skin cells are
erased, the micro-circulation is stimulated to improve
and aid tissue regeneration. This is a safe and painless
way of solving a series of aesthetic problems. The treatment

been a member of The Hydro’s team of therapists
for the past 25 years. Over the years she made
many friends amongst the clientele of the Hydro.
She will retire this May after a long and rewarding

Ilse
Fortuin, skincare therapist. Ilse has
been a therapist for 6 years, 4 of these at The
Hydro. She won the 2010 Hydro Award for Therapist
of the year. She is truly passionate about her

is always committed to deliver her best to her
clients and strives to go the extra mile. You
can expect absolute professionalism in the hands

Claudine
Festus, spa therapist. Her devotion to
her work made it possible for her to be selected
for internal training where she developed her
skills as a therapist. At first she was involved
in the hydrotherapy departments and later trained
as a wrap therapist. In 2009 she attended the
Isa Carstens Academy for Swedish massage. She
has become a great therapist often requested by
guests for her skills and emotional connection
during therapies.
FIRST
CLASS THERAPIES AND TREATMENTS
The
Cocoon Wrap: A decadent experience
of a Theravine grape seed exfoliation followed
by a 15 minute soak and relaxation in a milky
bath. A relaxing massage and mask application
allows for a cocoon envelopment of the body
for the absorption of products to revitalise
the skin and smooth out dehydration. This treatment
is extremely relaxing and prepares the skin
for optimum absorption of aromatic oils, a nourishing
mask is applied to bring back a youthful appearance
of the skin and cause circulation to increase
to leave one feeling revived and totally pampered.
Hot
Stone Therapy: Hot Stone massage is
a variation on classic massage therapy using
heated smooth stones to massage certain areas
of the body and placing them on key points.
. The use of hot stones for healing dates back
to ancient times. The heat warms and relaxes
the muscles which allow the therapist to apply
deeper pressure. The warmth of the stones improves
circulation and calms the nervous system. Stones
are also placed on energy centres of the body
to balance body and mind. The warmth of the
stones is extremely comforting and very good
for relaxation. Conditions such as back pains,
osteoarthritis and arthritis pains, stress and
anxiety as well as insomnia and depression can
be treated and relieved with hot stone massage.

Mellow
Mama Massage: A complete body massage using
specific pre-natal techniques to help relax and increase
circulation, alleviate tired muscles and reduce excess
water retention, focussing on specific muscles that
are responsible for supporting the pregnant tummy. It
is a 75 minutes experience with a break in between to
allow the mom some time to walk around and have a refreshment
before continuing with the relaxing treatment. A cocktail
of pregnancy safe aroma oils are used combined with
high quality carrier oils to massage and nourish the

HYDROPONICS
AT THE HYDRO
The first of
our vegetables will be harvested in a few weeks from
our new Hydroponic facility. Hydroponic technology uses
water enriched with minerals and nutrients which plants
feed on. Plants germinate in beds of coconut husks which
is soaked a few times a day with enriched water. The
water is then drained leaving minerals and nutrients
in the husks’ bed from which plants get their
food. No fertilisers or soil is used with this process
which allows for a very natural growth process resulting
in nutritious vegetables.

THE
UNIQUE PHILOSOPHY OF THE HYDRO
After
38 years, The Hydro remains loyal to the original

We continue to emphasize detoxification and
relaxation. Our programmes were recently adjusted
in order to facilitate this process. With fewer
treatments, guests are able to relax and recover
far better as well as create a perfectly suited
package with the help of our consultants by
integrating supplementary therapies into their
programme.
On
arrival, an introduction consultation is scheduled
with a consultant during which medical history,
objectives as well as nutritional requirements
are discussed. This is the perfect opportunity
to discuss your goals and problems with qualified
personnel. We have consultants with a wealth
of experience, nursing sisters and a doctor
in naturopathy, Elita du Toit - Richter. In
addition to our extensive treatment offering
guests can select any of the following supplementary
therapies:

Ozone Therapy
Essentially
a detox therapy, Ozone provides many other benefits
such as:
Boosting the immune
system thereby enhancing healing processes
Improving circulation
therefore allowing better transportation of
oxygen throughout the body
Reducing inflammation
and pain
Improving brain function
and memory
Oxidizing toxins
The therapy takes
about 30 minutes during which you sit comfortably in
a fibreglass unit with your head exposed. A gentle flow
of steam is introduced to the sealed unit allowing the
pores to open and the Ozone to penetrate the skin. Delano
De Visconti is well experienced in providing this therapy
and very knowledgeable about Ozone benefits, himself
a cancer survivor he explains that the use of Ozone
therapy was instrumental in his recovery. For more details
regarding this therapy please consult our lifestyle
consultants. For better results Delano recommends at
least four treatments.

Colonic hydrotherapy
This therapy
should form part of your visit to The Hydro. The colon
is unable to completely expel all waste matter and over
time the accumulation of such matter seriously impairs
the functioning of the colon. The process cleanses and
tones the colon and helps detoxify the body. This unique
therapy restores the functions of the colon and allows
proper assimilation which strengthens your health. This
is a simple and gentle process performed by a qualified
therapist, Emma Sennet who is a nursing sister. It is
perfectly safe and filtered water and disposable equipment
is used. The water is introduced under controlled pressure
in order to loosen the matter in the colon, the therapist
assists this process by gently massaging the abdominal
area before allowing the contents to be released. Multiple
sessions may be needed initially and we recommend regular
therapies to maintain a healthy colon. Emma has over
10 years experience performing this therapy and is highly
recommended by our guests.
•
Reflexology
This ancient
healing therapy serves to help the body restore itself
to a healthy balance by stimulating corresponding reflex
points on the feet or the hands. Cecilia Brits is one
of our most requested therapists; her skills and knowledge
are highly recommended by most guests. She has 28 years’
experience in reflexology, 18 of which have been at
the Hydro. She first trained as a nursing sister before
discovering her passion for reflexology, she was trained
by no other than Dwight Byers, head of the international
reflexology institute in Florida as well as Tony Porter
from London. Stress creates blockages that reflexology
can release through improved blood supply to targeted
areas in the body.

Shiatsu
Based on pressure
points, this Japanese technique is ideal for the treatment
of depression, anxiety, nausea, stiffness, headaches,
arthritis, cramps and pulled muscles. Richard Dowling
developed his Shiatsu technique in South Africa and
also went to Thailand in order to perfect his skills
while attending a Thai Massage School. Richard has been
practising Shiatsu for over 10 years, he also has a
BA in psychology, a brilliant therapist very much in
demand at The Hydro.

Body Posture Alignment
The health of
your back is vital to your wellbeing as it carries messages
along the spinal cord to the brain and the rest of the
body. With BPA you can help your body repair itself
by clearing physical and emotional blockages. Blockage
can cause distress in the body. Correctly aligned vertebras
and discs provide clear passageways for the nervous
system to send messages to the brain. This communication
is vital for optimum health. A postural relaxation technique
combined with a relaxation massage aims to straighten
your back by relaxing muscles and restoring alignment.
Multiple sessions may be needed depending on the severity
of your problem. Lindie Lea has 8 years’ experience
performing Body posture alignment.
